Printers are great when they work, but when they don’t it can be extremely frustrating. Here’s how to solve some of the most common HP printer problems, including not printing at all through to blocked nozzles and other issues.
Few things lead to frustration quicker than when you need to print something in a pinch, and your printer doesn’t want to cooperate (and it won’t tell you why either!) While streaky lines across your images or faded text is one hassle, dealing with a printer that won’t even acknowledge you exist is another. Whether you’re getting an error message that doesn’t sync up with reality or your printer is giving you the silent treatment, knowing where to start when your printer won’t print can relieve some of that frustration.
Sometimes the reason is as simple as over- or underuse. Many people don’t use their inkjet printers often enough and this can lead to problems with dried-up ink blocking the nozzles. Overuse is less common than misuse: paper clips, hair bands, and even food can fall into printers and cause paper jams (and worse).
My HP Printer won’t print
There are many reasons why your printer won’t print, so start with the basics such as checking to see whether there is an error message or warning light on the printer. Make sure there is paper in the tray(s), check the ink or toner cartridges aren’t empty, the USB cable is plugged in or the printer is connected to Wi-Fi.
And if it is a network or wireless printer, try using a USB cable instead. In our experience, some Wi-Fi printers are unreliable in terms of their connection. So it’s worth unplugging your printer and any powerline network adapters it’s connected to, then turning everything back on again.
Cancel all print jobs
Another possible cause of your HP printer not printing issue is the stuck print queue. The print queue containing failed print jobs can stop functioning normally and lead to printer not printing issue. You can clear all print jobs to get your HP printer back to normal.
a) Open Devices and Printers in Control Panel.
b) Right click on your HP printer in Printers section and select See what’s printing.
c) Open Printer menu and then select Open As Administrator.
d) Open Printer menu again. This time select Cancel All Documents.
e) Confirm your action.
f) You have canceled all print jobs of your printer. Now check and see if it can run normally.
One of the most common issues with HP printers is paper jams. Paper jam is a term that is used to describe a situation when printing materials (it may or may not be paper literally) get lodged or stuck into a computer printer. Users who experience this printer error will not be able to eject or remove the printing material. This means that the entire printing operations of your business will come to a halt if you encounter paper jams.
If you fail to regularly clean and maintain your printer or if you unintentionally use a wrong type of paper, then you may experience this HP printer issue. However, using the correct paper type and properly cleaning your printer at regular intervals will help you to stay away from this annoying HP printer error.
Some HP printer models are a little bit more susceptible to paper jams. For instance, HP printers that vertically hold the paper and pull it down through the device will certainly encounter paper jam issues occasionally. These models are not suitable for heavy use. So, if you are using such a printer in your office for heavy printing tasks, consider replacing them with newer HP printer models.
HP Printer Driver Issues
A recent survey revealed that many computer users are not bothered to update the apps and other programs in their PCs to the latest version. Shockingly, most of the computer printer issues that you are experiencing might be due to the use of an obsolete printer driver. This means that updating the printer driver of your computer to the latest available version might help you to fix at least a few of the HP printer problems.
Note that if you have recently updated the operating system of your computer to Windows 10, then you might not be able to print documents either. It is because the printer driver, that you used in the older versions of Windows are not supported by the new OS. You need to install the latest printer driver updates available to fix the issue.
If you are not able to find the latest version of the driver or continue to experience printer driver issues even after updating the driver, you should get in touch with our printer support professionals for assistance.
